This past week I took part in Paintable’s One Week Portrait Challenge and I’ve got to say… I’m extremely impressed. Anyone looking to learn how to draw or do digital art - I highly recommend Paintable as a resource. They have tons of helpful (and free!) content on their YouTube channel, and they also run an Academy on their website. I can’t attest to their Academy yet, but similar to Skillshare, it is subscription based at $35 / month. Once I finish up some courses that I have on the go right now, I’m definitely going to be looking into it because the quality of instruction during the One Week Portrait Challenge (which is also free!) was superb.
There were five videos - one for each day - each running at approx. 20 minutes. That’s it! In speaking with other challenge participants we all noted how the instructor knew exactly what to say and fit into those short lessons to help us produce “our best portrait ever.”
As you all know from my previous blog post, I’m a beginner when it comes to drawing. I can form shapes in Illustrator and After Effects like nobody’s business but I REALLY want to be able to draw! The following is my first attempt at a portrait thanks to Paintable.
So there you have it. I’ve a long way to go, but I feel like this challenge got me further ahead than I ever realised it could and I highly recommend it! I promise to keep updating this list on helpful resources I find and please let me know if you discover any also!
Until next time..!
